Production Machine Operator
Maritime Labels & Packaging, Atlantic Canada’s premier digital printer of labels, shrink sleeves, and flexible packaging, is seeking a Production Machine Operator to join our finishing and converting team.
This role focuses on converting printed materials into high-quality finished products using modern, well-maintained equipment in a clean, food-safe manufacturing environment.
Position Details
- Department: Finishing / Production
- Hours: 30–40 hours per week (Monday–Friday)
- Core Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Location: Milford Industrial Park, NS
- Employment Type: Permanent, full-time
What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Production Machine Operator will:
- Safely operate converting equipment such as:
- Die cutters
- Slitter / rewinders
- Laminators
- Pouch-making equipment
- Sheeters, seamers, and embellishment equipment
- Set up and operate machinery using HMI control systems
- Read and follow digital and paper job specifications and work orders
- Monitor product quality throughout production runs
- Perform routine equipment cleaning and basic maintenance
- Handle materials and assist with movement of rolls and finished goods
- Adhere to WHMIS while handling printing checmicals such as inks and cleaners
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area
- Work occasional overtime or adjusted shifts when production requires
What We’re Looking For
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Experience operating manufacturing or converting equipment (preferred)
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and food safety
- Comfort working with both metric and imperial measurements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to ~50 lbs safely
- Basic computer skills (touchscreens, keyboarding, MacOS environment)
- Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability
- Willingness to learn and grow within a production environment

Compensation & Benefits
- $20.00 – $28.00 per hour, based on experience and skill level
- Paid vacation and 11 paid holidays after probation

Overview:
The Senior Operator will report to the Production Manager and is responsible for operating label converting, shrink sleeve production, and other finishing equipment to convert printed roll-stock into finished labels and shrink sleeves. The Operator will develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures relevant to the Company workflow. This role requires technical skill, attention to detail, and adherence to SQF food-packaging safety standards.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:
• Operate finishing and converting equipment, including: • ABG label converting and shrink sleeve coating machine • GM flatbed foil and screen embellishment machine • ABG and Berkeley sheeter
• Operate shrink sleeve production equipment, including: • Karlville KSL shrink sleeve seamer • Karlville shrink sleeve inspection system
• Set up, thread, calibrate, and run converting and finishing equipment using HMI/touchscreen controls
• Convert digitally printed roll-stock using equipment such as die-cutters, slitters/rewinders, laminators, coaters, sheeters, and related finishing machinery
• Retrieve, organize, and install machine components (flexible dies, trays, cores, rollers, nip rollers, knives, cylinders, coatings, solvents, laminations, etc.) according to job specifications and WHMIS practices
• Conduct continuous quality checks, including print accuracy, coating uniformity, seam integrity, cutting accuracy and final product quality
- Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, basic troubleshooting, assist with equipment repair
- Document production data and follow workflow instructions and job specifications
- Supervise, instruct, and teach other equipment operators to maintain workflow and efficiency
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures relevant to digitally printed roll stock media and the equipment’s processes and best practices.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment in compliance with SQF food-safe packaging requirements
• Assist with material handling, including moving rolls and components up to 50 lbs
• Support other production departments and team members as needed to meet deadlines
• Work overtime or alternate shifts when required to support production demand
Required Skills and Competencies:
- High School diploma or greater
• 1 year experience operating semi and full rotary label & shrink sleeve converting machines from HP Indigo digitally printed roll stock
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
• Ability to detect and correct equipment irregularities
• Strong attention to detail and quality control
• Ability to read both metric and imperial measurements
• Digital literacy (touchscreens, HMIs, MacOS)
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials safely
